DCSO to hold job fair Thursday
(ALBANY, GA) – The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a job fair this week to look for new employees. And Chief Jailer, Jon Ostrander says that they need employees now.
He tells us, “We have continuously open positions for both Detention Officers and Deputy Sheriff. But the majority of the vacancies we have for right now are in the jail.”
Chief Ostrander elaborates that because of the the COVID-19 pandemic, finding new employees has been tough. That’s why they have over several dozen openings.
“Right now we’re experiencing heavy vacancies. I’ve got 32 vacancies right now, as of today in the jail. That’s what we’re really trying to fill. We’re hoping that we can get 25-30 new employees,” says Ostrander.
Which could prove difficult, but not impossible, as Chief Ostrander says there is room for advancement beyond the jail’s fence line.
He explains, “People may want to go work the road, they might want to do traffic enforcement. They may want to do traffic enforcement. They may want to do investigations. There are a lot of different niches in law enforcement and a jail is where they get their foot in the door.”
The job fair will be conducted at the Dougherty County Jail on Thursday, June 17th, from 4-8pm, at 1302 Evelyn Avenue. For more information, please contact the Hiring Coordinator at (229) 430-6673.
