DCPD issues warning to would be porch pirates this holiday season
(ALBANY, GA) – With the holiday season about to reach its peak, the Dougherty County Police Department is issuing a warning to anyone looking to swipe a package from someone’s front door.
DCPD Sergeant. Tedd Wertz tells us, “We’re gonna see probably more of it i think this year, than we have in year’s past. Just because more people are ordering online like groceries and Christmas presents.”
While more and more people are shopping online than ever, you can protect your packages, and Sergeant Wertz says there are a couple of things you can do to stop package theft.”
He tells us, “The shipping companies can give you a notification on your smartphone, set that up so you can do that, so you know it’s there. Or if you’re not at home, your neighbor can pick it up, and you can go to your neighbor’s house to get it.”
While there haven’t been an outstanding number of package thefts in the county at this time, taking care of them should be a top priority, and the Doughetry County Police says that the best approach is out of sight, out of mind.
“If you are at home and you see it: get it off your porch. The thing you want is to not have it out there, sitting as a target for someone driving by,” says Sergeant Wertz.
