DCPD investigating string of storage unit thefts
(ALBANY, GA) – A Philema Road storage facility has been the target of a burglary ring for more than six months. Investigators say that suspects have stolen more than ten thousand dollars worth of goods from these storage units.”
Investigators say it’s the facility’s location that makes it a crime of convenient getaways.
“Philema road as we know can get you back into the city limits, in Dougherty County or (Route) 300 or Highway 75. So I do believe that’s what makes it an easy target for them,” said Dougherty County Police Detective, Corporal, Calvin Hodge, Monday morning.
Law enforcement have identified at least eight suspects, and as of monday morning, three are in police custody…
Detectives believe they can tie these suspects, to other crimes across the South Georgia area
Detective Hodge says, “I do believe that they could be connected with more thefts. We’ve had information that these guys have been operating not only here, but as far up as Warner Robbins and Tifton as well.”
While several suspects are already in police custody, law enforcement says anyone who spots these suspects, to avoid them, for their own personal safety.
“They have made it well known that they do not plan on being caught. Anyone who comes in contact with them. They are considered to be armed and dangerous. We’re asking that you don’t approach them, but call your local law enforcement agency…,” says Hodge
We contacted the owner of storage facility that’s been hit by the burglary ring for an interview.
They have declined to comment due to the ongoing police investigation.
