Newly hired employee allegedly tried smuggling contraband into detention center

CORDELE, GA – A recently hired employee at the Crisp County Detention Center is out of a job and behind bars after his arrest late last night.
20 year old Jhayvion Smith was arrested and subsequently fired after he allegedly tried smuggling prohibited contraband into the facility.
Crisp deputies say Smith was spotted last night in the jail’s parking lot where he met with 34 year old Sasha Savage where the two allegedly exchanged items.
Those items deputies say were bundles of cigarettes and a schedule V narcotic.
Both Smith and Savage were arrested shortly afterward.
Smith is charged with bringing contraband across guard line to inmates, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of oath by public officer. Savage is charged with bringing contraband across guard line to inmates and possession of a controlled substance.
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock says “we have taken affirmative steps to address the severity of misconduct in this case. This agency and this administration will hold ourselves and our employees to the highest standards of professionalism. Any employee who tarnishes their badge or betrays the trust of the office will be dealt with swiftly and justly.”
The investigation is ongoing; the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and District Attorney Brad Rigby are
assisting.
