Crisp County wraps up annual youth baseball, softball camp

CORDELE, GA – Crisp County High School wrapped up its youth baseball and softball camp Thursday morning, which saw a massive turnout.

The camp had over 100 young athletes ages five to twelve who got to learn from players and coaches on the fundamentals of the game: defense, hitting, baserunning, fielding and pitching.

It was a great opportunity for the kids to brush up on their skills as some of them prepare for middle school, and others prepare for high school.

And although this may seem like another camp to some, for Cougars head coach Kyle Kirk, he loves to see the growth of these athletes every year.

“We really want to grow the game in Crisp County,” Kirk said. “We just want to love on our kids and support them, and help some of the parents out during the summer to get all the energy out of the kids.”

There also wasn’t just a baseball camp going on at Crisp County this week. For the first time ever, the high school also held a youth softball camp that saw girls ages five to twelve learning from players and coaches about the basics of the sport.

It was such a historic moment that it even got former Cougars to come back to help prepare these future stars for the next level.

“It’s all about exposure,” said South Carolina softball star Riley Blampied. “To get these kids any type of advice, any type of inspiration to show them that you can get there some day.”
