Crisp County Sheriff urges residents to abide by curfew

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. – After a number of large gatherings took place in Crisp County over the weekend, the Crisp County leaders unanimously agreed to enact a curfew.
Local law enforcement will work to enforce the curfew from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock says he wishes it didn’t have to come to this and that he’s disappointed in some of the members of his community.
“That’s hard to say without emotions that I feel like people could’ve stayed home at night. That some of these parties and some of these things we’ve done could’ve been avoided. We will enforce this, of course we’ll try to do it starting out by giving people a courtesy warning by saying ‘hey you’re violating, you need to go home.’”
Hancock says repeat violators of the curfew could face misdemeanor charges.
“I thought people would be scared of death but they’re not. These are harsh words but these are from my heart,” says Hancock, “This is to the community that I grew up in, and that I love. Please, we’re not doing it to harm you, we’re not doing it to make your life miserable we’re doing it to save your life.”
No end date for the curfew has been declared.
