CORDELE, Ga. —  Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock announces the passing of his wife.

Sheriff Hancock made the announcement Thursday evening that his wife, Mary Ellen had been dealing with bronchitis which then turned to pneumonia.

The sheriff posted this statement to his facebook saying “…earlier this month, I wrote that Mary Ellen was in critical condition at Emory University Hospitalin Atlanta. COVID-19 restrictions made a tough situation even more difficult. In both of my updates, I asked for prayers. I can attest that all your prayers were felt.”

Sheriff Hancock says that due to the ongoing pandemic, the family has chosen to hold a private service.
