Crisp County farmers honored at 26th Annual Appreciation Dinner

CORDELE, Ga.Local farmers and agricultural leaders were honored during the 26th Annual Farmers Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Cordele-Crisp County Chamber of Commerce on March 12 at the Cordele Lions Club.

The annual event brings together farmers, community leaders, and agricultural partners to recognize the role agriculture plays in Crisp County’s economy and heritage.

This year’s keynote speaker was U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA), who represents Georgia’s 8th Congressional District. Scott spoke about the importance of agriculture to Georgia’s economy and thanked local farmers for their continued work in one of the state’s top industries.

Several farmers and agricultural leaders were recognized during the event. Award winners included:

  • Farm Family of the Year: Keith Moore Family

  • Peanut Producer of the Year: Rob Greene

  • Cotton Producer of the Year: Charles Hardin

  • Watermelon Producer of the Year: Hal McCay

  • Farm to Table Award: Zack and Heather Smith of Smith Family Farm

Two longtime supporters of the agricultural community — Jessie Bryan and Mike Whitewere also recognized for more than 20 years of service to the Chamber’s Agriculture Committee.

The dinner also featured assistance from Crisp County 4-H students and Crisp County High School FFA members, while Georgia Watermelon royalty helped distribute door prizes.

Organizers say the annual event remains one of the Chamber’s most anticipated traditions, celebrating the farmers and producers who help keep Crisp County a leader in Georgia agriculture.
