CORDELE, GA – Final arrangements are being made for late Crisp County Coroner and Cordele native J.D. “Jimmy” Rainey, who passed away Monday at 78 years of age.

Visitation is set for Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the Rainey Family Funeral Home.

Rainey’s funeral service is slated for Thursday at 11am with his committal service following in Cordele’s Sunnyside Cemetery.

He’s survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Rainey of Cordele, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Beyond serving as Crisp County’s Coroner for more than 40 years, Rainey also worked in the first EMS prior to becoming a county department.

Rainey also served the community in his work for the Lions Club, the Cordelia Lodge 296 F & AM, an usher at Cordele’s First United Methodist Church and was also a longtime member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association.

Rainey has been the longtime owner of Rainey Family Funeral Services, a family business started in 1953 when Rainey’s father bought the Dekle Funeral Home of Cordele.

The family requests any memorial donations in Rainey’s honor be made to the Cordele Lions Club.
