Covid-19 hits Dougherty County Jail

ALBANY, Ga. — The Dougherty County Jail announced today that five inmates have tested positive for Covid-19.
All five inmates are from the same housing unit that has been placed in a lockdown/quarantine. The facility is using all precautions, including rapid testing, to keep the infection contained.
Jail officials believe the new cases are a result of a “holiday surge” which has seemingly resulted in several staff members becoming exposed to the virus.
The Dougherty County Sheriff and his staff encourage everyone in the community to continue to be vigilant about mask-wearing and social distancing until the pandemic is under control.
