ALBANY, Ga – One Dougherty County resident has died this week due to coronavirus complications.

That follows a week with zero COVID-19 deaths

During today’s COVID-19 task force meeting, officials pressed the need to wear masks and for residents to follow CDC guidelines– emphasizing that the pandemic is not over yet.

“We’re still admitting two to three patients a day. Two and three is not zero, we’re still having new cases. These are just the patients that were admitted to the hospital, we’re still seeing several patients being admitted to the emergency department, they’re not sick enough to be admitted to the hospital so several people are sent home. We’re also seeing patients in the community at outlying clinics that are having positive cases so coronavirus is still in our community, it is still possible for people to get sick,” says Dr. James Black, medical director of Emergency Services at Phoebe Putney Health System.

As of noon Thursday, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has 36 COVID patients.
