ALBANY, Ga. – Dougherty County Commissioners are contemplating the purchase of air cleaning equipment. The ionizers are said to filter contaminants from the air including the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The air filters also remove other viruses, bacteria and molds.

The $40,000 expenditure would cover installation of the units at the government center, libraries and other county buildings.

Heidi Minnick, Dougherty County facilities management director, says she hopes commissioners approve the purchase to give people peace of mind.

“There’s a lot of the employees that have worked the entire time. All of us know someone that has gotten sick from [COVID-19] and to know that Dougherty County is taking care of its employees as well as the patrons not only makes you feel safe when you come to work makes it to where you’re not afraid to come to work.”

Commissioners say that there is a potential for the county to be reimbursed for the purchase. This matter is to be voted on Aug. 3.
