Colquitt County reaching out to community for feedback in superintendent search

(MOULTRIE, GA) – The general public of Colquitt County is getting to have their voices heard in the decision for the county’s next superintendent in 2021.

But it’s more than parents in the district who are getting a say.

“We’ve had parents and caregivers, business and industry, and teachers and administrators to give input about characteristics and what they think the next superintendent needs in experiences, as well as what they would like to see our school system look like in the next five years,” says Moultrie-Colquitt Development Authority President, Barbara Grogan.

Earlier in the year, current superintendent, Doug Howell announced that following the end of the 2020-21 school year that he would be retiring.

Since then, the Moultrie-Colquitt Development Authority has helping field desires from the community in what they want out of their superintendent…

As well as how it feeds back into the growth of the community.

Grogan tells us, “Our biggest asset in our community, and really every community, is the people. And everything you do to help them be successful, and in this case, our school system and our students, all organizations should help that. So that’s what we’ve been trying to do is to help that process.”

While most school systems stay within the board of education to discuss what they want, asking the community to feed into their own future.

“They all need to be involved. It’s very important for those stakeholder’s voices to be heard. But to also be a tangible, helpful part of the process, because they’re also the same people who are going to carry it out in years to come,” says Grogan.

Superintendent, Doug Howell will officially retire on July 1st, 2021.
