Colquitt County honors Class of 2020
(MOULTRIE, GA) – With less than two weeks before their scheduled graduation date, the Colquitt County community is giving the class of 2020 a different sendoff in lieu of a traditional graduation.
It’s known as Adopt a Senior.
“The goal of this, the main objective, if you will is to simply take and recognize our kids for their accomplishments and what they’ve been able to do this year, and celebrate them,” says CCHS Principal, Jamie Dixon.
Through the Adopt a Senior movement, members of the community can sponsor one of the more than 500 students in the graduating class and help them celebrate as they finish high school.
For the Colquitt High staff, seeing support from the community is everything in the pandemic.
Principal Dixon tells us, “This community is invested in this high school. They love these kids, they want to show their respect to these kids. And it means everything to me, and to our faculty and staff, and mostly to the children.”
Much like other school systems in Southwest Georgia, the Colquitt class of 2020 has had an uphill battle including severe storms, and the pandemic.
While it looks like they’ve had everything thrown at them, Colquitt’s principal believes that the adversity the class has faced will be invaluable.
“I know it seems like the train just keeps on coming and coming, and coming. But they’ve been able to deal with it, learn from it, and that will make them stronger as they progress through life in my humble opinion,” says Dixon.
