ALBANY, Ga. —  The Albany community said goodbye to a prominent figurehead in the community Wednesday morning.

The Dougherty County community, alongside the marines came together Wednesday as Colonel Alphonso Trimble was relieved of his duties as the commanding officer of the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.

After two years of service at the MCLB, Colonel Trimble was not only stepping down, but retiring as well.

Colonel Trimble tells us, “The significance of the change of command is the fact that we are transferring total responsibility and accountability for whatever happens on the installation to another person. It’s just an official ceremony to put the icing on the cake once the orders are read.”

With more than three decades of service now in the rearview mirror, Colonel Trimble is looking back on every marine, and the people he worked with in Albany.

“It’s kind of bittersweet, leaving the great people I’ve met. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life with my family. So it’s a little bittersweet for us…,” says Trimbl.

As the now retired colonel looks back on his tenure in Southwest Georgia ending, he’s thankful to have been a part of the community.

Hw says, The last thing I want to say asIi leave,Ii want to say I had a great time. I’ve just had a great time, met a lot of great people. You guys have great marines. We’ve got a great community who supports the military. We like that, we enjoy that.”

Colonel Trimble is succeeded as Commanding Officer by Colonel Michael Fitzgerald.
