City Commissioners to hold ‘We Count’ Census News Conference

Census

ALBANY, Ga. – Have you filled out your census form? Albany leaders are gathering Friday morning in hopes of encouraging more residents to respond to the questionnaire.

Census results shape the future of communities, as census data informs how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed.

That includes money for health clinics, school lunch programs, disaster recovery initiatives, and other critical programs and services for the next 10 years.

Right now Dougherty County has a response rate of 55.7%. That’s 10.8% lower than the 2010 household response rate for the county.

“The return information has been very low so we’re just going to try to energize and encourage everybody to turn the Census back in as soon as possible if we are under counted that would determine that for the next ten years that we will not receive what we should receive from the federal government,” says Ward I Commissioner Jon Howard.
