ALAPAHA, GA- It’s a little easier getting around South Georgia, especially with the new bridge reopening S.R. 158 along the Berrien and Irwin County line.

In a Facebook posting, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced the opening of the recently-completed S.R. 158 bridge over the Willacoochee River.

About seven miles northeast of Alapaha, the bridge replaces the original one that was built in 1958. At a cost of around $3.7 million dollars, GDOT says it is pleased to have replaced another weight-posted bridge in southwest Georgia.
