Bishop reacts to Roe v Wade developments

Georgia Congressman's statement on reported decision overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling

COLUMBUS, GA – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued this statement following media reports of a draft Supreme Court decision overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling:

“It appears that the Supreme Court is poised to reverse over 50 years of judicial precedent and redefine the Constitution to remove a woman’s right to choose whether to have an abortion or not.

“I believe that decision should ultimately rest with the woman, her God and her doctor—not with 50 different State legislatures that may likely encourage Americans to spy on their neighbors’ personal health choices for cash; stalk women, their friends and supporters; criminalize doctors and otherwise limit access to healthcare.

“I believe abortion should be legal, safe, and an available choice in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life or health of a woman.”
