Baker County bridge slated for replacement
1960 built span is showing signs of wear and age

NEWTON, GA – Baker County commuters need to be aware of the impending closure of Cross Road Bridge over Big Cypress Creek, as Georgia’s Department of Transportation plans a replacement span.
GDOT says a 2021 inspection showed the current bridge, constructed in 1960, is showing cracks and leaking deck joints among other issues.
The bridge is slated to close September 26th.
Local traffic will be able to access areas on either side of the bridge.
Non-local traffic will be directed to detour using county roads 124 and 60.
The contractor is permitted to close the road for 150 calendar days, barring inclement weather and/or any unforeseen events.
