Atlanta Dream fall to Washington Mystics
COLLEGE PARK, GA – The Atlanta Dream went into Tuesday night’s game with high hopes after defeating the Washington Mystic back in May for the first time this season. Unfortunately for the Dream, that wasn’t the case on Tuesday night.
On a positive note in front of the dream, it was the sixth consecutive sold out crowd this season, and Rhyne Howard became the youngest player in the NBA history to reach 200 career three point passing, Diana Taurasi by just a three day difference.
Howard would go to be the leading scorer of the game for the dream with 16 total points. However, her effort wasn’t enough to carry the team to victory.
The determining factor of the game was shooting. The Mystics led Atlanta in every single scoring category shooting 47 percent from the court, 54 percent from three and 62 percent from the free throw line.
On the other hand, the Dream just couldn’t manage to knock down crucial shots, going 35 percent from the field, 34 percent from the three point line and 66 percent in free throws, ultimately giving Washington their first win this season 87-68.
“I’ll take this one,” Dream head coach Tanisha Wright said. “I don’t think I did a great job of preparing them for what they were gonna see tonight. Washington was a good team. … They did nothing different than how they normally play other than make shots tonight. … They play basketball the right way. They move the ball, they share the ball, they keep their space in defensively. They talk, they communicate, they cover for each other. That’s a good team.
The only thing standing in Atlanta’s way of getting back onto a winning streak is the number one pick in this year’s WNBA draft, Caitlin Clark, and the Indiana Fever who the Dream will travel to play this Thursday.
