ALBANY, Ga.  — With the school year cut short, Albany State University is easing up on a requirement for the incoming class of 2024, students will not need an SAT or ACT score when applying.

“What we want for students amid this crisis is to be able to come into school without any disruption to their academic plans. And so the cancellation of these test scores alleviates that concern,” says ASU Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success, Kenyatta Johnson.

As local school systems like Dougherty County make grades at the time of the pandemic final, waiving the standardized test scores for potential students makes sure that every one of them planning on attending isn’t missing a thing on their applications

Johnson says, “You have students who were planning on re-taking the test in the spring semester to get a high score. But what this allows them to do now is to not have to worry about those test scores when considering where they’re going to college and if they’re going to be accepted.”

Largely due to the Coronavirus, waiving standardized test scores will give a boost to the incoming class of college freshman, as many will be able to enroll for a four year bachelor’s program, rather than a two year associates program.

Especially with those who will be going in on what the university calls the *Golden Rams Guarantee*

“A lot of students and parents have already decided what they want for their career and academic path, so this provides a good transition into that,” says Johnson.

ASU also announced that they will not be increasing tuition for the 2020-21 school year.
