ALBANY, GA – With the resurgence of Covid-19 and the added complication of the Delta variant, many are wondering how they would possibly make it through another lockdown or quarantine.

For those who have already been impacted or could face financial struggles as a result of the ongoing pandemic, there is still assistance available.

Relief is available in the form of programs currently being administered by the United Way of Southwest Georgia. There are four assistance programs available: three city programs that can help qualified individuals make past due or current rent or mortgage payments. A statewide program assists with past due rent or utilities through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

As of July 15, 408 applications have been received with a total of approximately $500,000 in federal funds were designated for the program. To apply, citizens must show proof of homelessness or housing instability and a financial impact due to Covid-19. There is an income threshold, and applicants must provide proof of income for all household members aged 18 and older.

To apply or for more information, call the United Way’s 2-1-1 assistance line, visit their web page at www.unitedwayswga.org or call 229-883-6700.
