APD: Shot 4 year old story is sham; relatives charged

Albany Police find story of shot 4 year old is false, file charges on family members

ALBANY, GA – Charges are being field against the father and grandmother of an Albany 4 year old, after investigators doubt the credibility of the child’s relatives and the account provided to officers.

Albany Police Public Information Officer Phyllis Whitley-Banks says 45 year old Kimberly Williams, the grandmother of the child, was arrested on a single count of obstructing a police officer, noting she was less than forthcoming with what really happened to her grandson Contravis Williams Jr.

The child’s father, 26 year old Contravis Jamal Williams Sr, also faces charges in connection to the alleged false report that began late Tuesday night.

It was then the father says his son was shot by unknown people as the two waited for a ride in a parking lot just before midnight.

Police now say they believe the child shot himself, after gaining access to a gun.

Contravis Jamal Williams Sr is facing charges which include reckless conduct, tampering with evidence and filing a false report.

Officers believe Williams left the gun inside the home, cleaned up the scene after the shooting and then misreported the incident.

The child suffered a gunshot wound that punctured his right knee and lodged in his left thigh; he’s expected to recover.
