APD discuss recent spree of car break-ins

(ALBANY, GA) – If you live in the Albany area, you might want to start double checking your car when you lock it.

The Albany Police Department has been investigating more than two dozen instances of cars being broken into in Northwest Albany since the end of November. And they say suspects have been easily getting in to them.”

“Whether it’s a housing complex, whether it’s an apartment complex, or a hotel parking lot, they’ll get out of their vehicle, and start walking up and down the street, checking for unlocked door handles,” says APD Property Division Captain, Eddie Jones.

The Albany Police Department say that there are a number of suspects involved in these break-ins, while some have already been caught, they’re still on the lookout for those part of a larger group.

Captain Jones says, “Some of the evidence we have has not identified them as of right now. So we’re still trying to attach that to other entering autos. We’re trying to notify some victims as well as piece all of this together.”

In addition to the arrests made so far, the Albany Police are also working with some of the property owners victimized, and they’re doing everything they can to step up and curb this issue.

Captain Jones tells us, “This is an effort that needs to be fought on all fronts. We’re doing as much as we can through our patrolling, through making a many cases as we possibly can. But we need everybody’s help.”

Above all else, they’re asking anyone who’s been affected to speak up if they spot another break in going on.
