Albany’s September unemployment rate decreases

Thursday, Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler reported that the unemployment rate in Albany was 3.5% in September, a seven-tenths of a percent decrease from the previous month.The rate was 4.4% one year ago.

Commissioner Mark Butler stated, “We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and employer demand to fill open positions.”Georgia has seen its lowest number of unemployed individuals in over 20 years as a result of its rapid growth.”

The number of people employed in Albany increased by 245 during the month, reaching 65,494.When compared to September 2021, that number rose by 93.

Albany had 63,233 employed residents at the end of the month.That number went up by 743 over the course of the month and by 696 when compared to the same period last year.

Albany had 62,800 jobs at the end of September.Compared to this time last year, that number increased by 1,900 and increased by 100 between August and September.

In September, Albany saw a decrease of 37% in the number of unemployment claims.Claims were down about 24% compared to September of last year.
