Albany’s getting greener with 11 new hybrid vehicles

ALBANY, Ga. – The Mayor and City Commissioners approved a contract with Sunbelt Ford for the purchase of 11 Ford Hybrid Interceptor Utility vehicles for an expenditure of $416,592.00.

These new vehicles will replace 10 units that are at the end of their life and one that is totaled.

One of the new vehicles will go for Risk Management, two for Investigations and eight for the Police Department.

Yvette Fields, Central Services Director, says the city kept the health of the environment in mind when making this purchase. “It’s a win for the city because we’re all concerned about the environment.”

Within the the life cycle of the vehicle (six years), they produce 37,044 pounds less driving CO emissions and they’ll each save the city $5,461.

Fields says that “the Commission has shown great interest in procuring green or hybrid equipment.”

The cars that are being replaced will be deemed surplus for disposal.
