Albany State football wraps up spring with annual Blue and Gold game

ALBANY, GA – Over the weekend, Albany State University’s football team held their annual spring game also known as the Blue and Gold game.

As the name suggests, it was team blue – which consisted of all defensive players – taking on team gold, which was all offensive players.

Although team blue won 33-23 Saturday, Golden Rams head football coach Quinn Gray said it was not about the score, it was to see how much the team improved all spring.

“I’m proud of what I saw this spring,” Gray said. “The work that the guys put in and then all the thing we can do now is build from that during the summer months.”

Because it was offense versus defense, team blue was awarded with points every time they got a sack, an interception and a turnover on downs. And after they finished the game with two interceptions and  more than a handful of sacks, it was no wonder coach Gray was impressed with that group the most.

“They’ve been tough all spring, to be honest with you,” Gray said. “The good thing that I see is they’re competing, they’re having fun, and … they’re playing fast. We did some things on it from a defensive standpoint to simplify some things and not complicate things so they can go out there, fly around and play fast, and it’s and it was evident [Saturday].”

Golden Rams will continue practicing until kicking off the regular season August 30 on the road against Shaw University.
