Albany senior dies in Sylvester Highway crash

72 year old Diane Griffin killed in collision

ALBANY, GA – Albany Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident.

Investigators say it happened a little before noon Thursday at the intersection of Pinson Road and Sylvester Highway.

72 year old Diane Griffin of Albany sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

Police say their initial review suggests Griffin was attempting to cross Sylvester Highway southbound via Pine Bluff Road when her vehicle was struck by 34 year old Willie Wakefield’s pickup truck which was traveling eastbound on Sylvester Highway.

The collision sent both vehicles into a ditch in front of the Fast Lane convenient store.

Wakefield was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
