Albany Police Chief discusses crime spike

Chief Persley

ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Police Chief Michael Persley says there’s been a spike in crime in the Good Life City. There were three homicides in July alone, making a total of 9 homicides so far this year.

The Albany Police Department is also reporting a total of 38 aggravated assaults committed with firearms in the last month. However, Persley says Albany’s uptick in crime is on trend with the rest of the nation.

“We’ve seen here in Albany what the rest of the nation is seeing, we have an increased trend in violence and yes that is a deep concern. Even in the midst of a pandemic, of a silent killer, we have people who just don’t respect human life and they don’t value others. I am just deeply concerned that as the months go on for the rest of the year that something has to stop.”
