Albany Police arrest suspect after shooting, pursuit on 6th Avenue

ALBANY, Ga. — A suspect is in custody following a shooting and police pursuit Wednesday morning in Albany, according to the Albany Police Department.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. on March 18 to the 1400 block of 6th Avenue after a resident reported a victim had been struck by a bullet. Authorities say dispatchers provided officers with a description of a suspect vehicle, identified as a maroon Ford sedan.

Following a neighborhood canvas, officers used FLOCK camera technology and other investigative tools to locate the vehicle. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit.

Police say the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Dresaun White, was later seen by an off-duty officer exiting and abandoning the vehicle. During that time, the officer observed White drop a firearm before getting back into the car and continuing to flee.

With assistance from the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was located again. Authorities say White eventually abandoned the car on North Madison Street near 8th Avenue and ran on foot before being taken into custody a short time later.

Officers recovered a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition near the driver’s side door of the abandoned vehicle.

White was transported to the Dougherty County Jail and is facing charges including aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and additional charges related to fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.

Police say a second suspect connected to the incident remains at large. Investigators are working to identify and locate that individual.
