(ALBANY, GA) – After more than 10 years, there’s going to be a new program in the City of Albany, the city will be looking to buy back the guns from citizens to keep them off the streets.

“Maybe they feel that the gun is not needed any more, maybe they’ve had some changes in their household where the guns put family members at risk. And it may be individuals who have acquired the guns illegally…,” says Ward 4 City Commissioner, Chad Warbington.

The buyback program will be no questions asked from those looking to turn them over, with the public receiving compensation, and the city will be taking no chances with the bought back firearms.

Commissioner Warbington tells us, “…So it will also give our police department valuable information about the guns, and their origins, and then the guns will be legally destroyed. They will not be put back on the streets or back into a legal market.”

While there is only one set for the spring for the time being, law enforcement and city officials are optimistic about the program, as well as how it can be a learning experience for those selling back their guns.

“We believe it’s going to be very successful, but we do want to learn from. So this is something we’re planning on having two or three times a year depending on the popularity, and the amount of guns..,” says Commissioner Warbington.

The program will take place on April 1st, 2021.
