(ALBANY, GA) – As Americans anxiously await the results of the federal moratorium on rent expiring, the Albany Housing Authority, like many in the country are trying to prevent a large number of evictions.

Albany Housing Authority Head of Public Relations, Dena Jackson says, “What we’re trying to do is what we’ve always done; make sure that any of our residents, and anybody in Albany has a stable place to live. We’re also main sure that the kids have a stable place to live. So right now is not an option to evict anyone.”

The housing authority’s plan of action regards a bunch of their local partners to provide the necessary relief so those who have ben struggling financially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic can have one less problem to worry about.

“Once we get a ‘yes’ we move them onto a prompt-rent reduction, if that’s what we need to do. We’re also adding re-payment agreements so they can pay back a past-due amount,” says Jackson.

In addition to rent reductions, the housing authority is making sure that those caught in renewals repayments are on hold to prevent evictions.

They’re also mking sure that their tenants can take care of their families first.

Jackson says, “It means that they can focus on other things, for example: children going back to school, finding daycare, finding new jobs if they lost their jobs, finding healthcare…”
