Albany domestic violence shelter in need of children’s books

ALBANY, Ga. – “When the pandemic first started our lines became silent, our crisis line became silent for a little while,” says executive director of Liberty House Diane Rogers.

But now, as the city gets back to normal, calls are coming in as domestic abuse cases are going up and so is the need for critical items.

“We are always in need for donations when it comes to hygiene items, paper products, toilet paper paper towels more than anything right now, lysol, lysol wipes.”

Along with those vital supplies, Liberty house is now asking for books.

“We are currently having a book drive, we have a new shelter which we hope to be moving into very soon and in that shelter we have a wonderful new playroom and it was a shelter that was designed specifically for the needs of those we serve.”

Rogers says the books will help the children who’ve experienced trauma.

“For our kids they’ve experienced a lot of trauma so reading is a way to escape from that and to have fun and develop that imagination and just enjoy themselves.”

Rogers says any donation is welcome as they are as busy as ever and they need the communities help to provide vital supplies in ensuring victims get the help they need.

“Liberty House depends on the support of the community, all of our services are free of charge so when individuals come here we’re going to give them any support that they need at no cost.”
