Albany Commissioner talks recent alleged kidnapping

(ALBANY, GA) – For a Maryland Drive woman, answering the door to Tristian Brown led to him to allegedly kidnapping her and robbing her at gunpoint.

That was more than a week ago, and now he’s been captured.

Albany Commissioner B.J. Fletcher says there’s one thing people can do to help themselves in that situation; play it safe.

She says, “I’m asking everyone, i don’t care what age group you are or where you live, just don’t answer your door if it’s a stranger. And this was at lunch time, so i’m just asking that you don’t answer your door.”

Albany city officials are wondering what the next step is to prevent another kidnapping from happening in broad daylight.

Fletcher says that it’s time for cameras in neighborhoods to become a reality.

“I’ve already talked to the (police) chief once before to see if we can’t find a company that if this is a community that will buy some type of security cameras in bulk…,’ says Fletcher.

While the issue remains on the table for now, city officials like Commissioner Fletcher are asking for the community to do a couple of things to protect themselves.

She tells us, “Stay your distance when you’re in a car, stay your distance when you’re at home, and simply think of every possible measure you can take to keep yourself safe.”

Brown had been in hospital custody after his capture Sunday in Worth County, but as of Tuesday afternoon, he escaped Phoebe and was last spotted in the area of Palmyra Road and 9th Avenue wearing a hospital gown and yellow socks.

Anyone with any information or sees Tristian Brown, should call the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100.
