Albany City Commission approves new utility circuit
(ALBANY, GA)- After being damaged by storms over the last few years, the Albany City Commission is moving forward with the plans for a new utility circuit.
The new circuit is meant to help cut down on possible outages to vital parts of downtown Albany.
Albany Assistant City Manager, Ken Stock tells us, “We were awarded the grant, to take the circuit and add some resiliency, and reliability for the circuit for that section of town. And for another section of town, that circuit will work as a secondary source.”
Throughout the year, the city will be working towards stringing together more than 37,000 feet of fiber infrastructure.
Stock says that having the new circuit can make a noticeable difference for these medical facilities as well as parts of the city.
He says, “This feeds into the hospital area, and then kind of feeds towards the downtown area. And then on a secondary type service, it then feeds across the river and into East Albany.”
With the new circuits now in motion, it’s a step forward for the Good Life City.
“All utilities across the country strive to, what they call ‘strengthen’ their systems and services so this is a wonderful opportunity,” says Stock
So as plans begin to take shape, the new circuit will help keep vital power surging when severe weather hits.
Stock says that the city will be reviewing the plans for the circuit over the next three months.
