Additional COVID-19 deaths but officials report positive trends

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. — As of Tues. afternoon, a total of 114 Dougherty County residents have died due to coronavirus related complications.
Despite having the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in Georgia, Dougherty County leaders and Phoebe officials revealed positive trends during today’s COVID-19 task force meeting.
The number of new patients being hospitalized across the Phoebe health system for COVID-19 is down and the number of people testing positive for the virus is also decreasing.
“We are seeing positive trends here in Albany,” says Mayor Bo Dorough during Tues. COVID-19 task force meeting, “The number of patients at Phoebe Putney Memorial hospital fell below 100 last week for the first time since March 22 and continues to decline. Please continue to maintain social distance, wash your hands with soap and hot water repeatedly throughout the day. Remain in your residence unless there is a necessity to leave your home in which event you should wear a mask and return to your residence as soon as your business is completed.”
To help the community stay safe, Mayor Dorough says Proctor & Gamble made a “generous donation” of masks for those that need them and the city will make them available for pick up in the coming days.
