Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College basketball wraps up first season since 2007

TIFTON, GA – More than 15 years ago, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College had to shut down its basketball program due to budget cuts. But 15 years later, the Stallions and Fillies would take the court once again, and over the weekend they would officially wrap up their first full season since 2007.

“We progressed all the way through the whole season. We’ve progressively gotten better,” said Fillies head basketball coach and ABAC athletic director Charles Wimberly. “I’m just proud of the the program. The main thing was … to have basketball.”

But it wasn’t the best welcome back party as the Fillies would finish with five wins and 22 losses, and the Stallions would finish with six wins and 20 losses. But both coaches still had some positives to take away from this season.

“I think at the end of the day, if we continue to build off of trust in each other, get some maturation and being competitive, that’s my biggest thing. Being competitive,” said Stallions head basketball coach Calvin Sinkfield.

Of course, it’s just the first year with a brand new team, so they can only go up from here, and the coaches already know what needs to be done for them to have a better 2025 season.

“Hold each other accountable as well as reflecting on yourself when you’re not playing well, and establishing a better interior game. I think that’s really going to help us in the future,” Sinkfield said.

“And the best part is there will be a future. One where ABAC fans won’t have to worry about seeing the basketball team disappear again, because the Fillies and Stallions are here to stay.
