(SYLVESTER, GA) — As school systems announce a later start date in August over COVID-19, a group of school workers is making preparations much differently than in years passed: the school nurses who’ve been planning for months.

“We’ve been preparing our offices so that we can, meet our upcoming guidelines for the year. And we’ve been real proud that Worth County High School and the Board of Education worked with us,” says Worth County High School nurse, Suzanne Lasseter.

It’s not just the local board of education nurses Lasseter have had to work with.

Nurses like are making sure that students are up to date with immunizations for both in-person, and distance learning, those in-person are going to be monitored extensively.

Lasseter says, “We will start from the time they get on the bus, not only nurses, but our staff, the parents are also supposed to help us as we’ve discussed in these meetings. We think it’s a collaborative effort that we work together…”

Alongside her fellow Worth County nurses, Lasseter has been working with the CDC and the Department of Public Health in order to ensure that they’re up to code for the school year, and she’s going into the start of the year with a positive attitude.

She says, “We have got out offices in order, supplies ordered. Our paperwork is ready to go for our parents, and hopefully they’ll send back the information for us to help their child at school. We’re all set for the new year, and we are ready to go.”

Worth County Schools are set to start on September 8th.
