(ALBANY, GA) – In less than a week’s time, nearly 6,000 students will be returning to Albany State University’s campus.

While the college is already taking measures to keep students safe, they’re making sure that COVID-19 testing will be available for everyone.

“We recommend that testing on a regular basis. Maybe it’s every week, maybe it’s more or less frequent, based on the prevalence of it in the community and on campus,” says Testing for America’s Dr Neil Hockstein.

Albany State University is one of a handful of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the country that has partnered with Testing for America to bring additional COVID-19 testing to campuses.

Because unlike the initial outbreak of COVID, there’s a chance of students unknowingly carrying it.

Dr Hockstein tells us, “Many of them will be asymptomatic, we want to prevent them from spreading the virus. So we recommend that upon arrival at school, everyone be tested, so we can identify people who would unknowingly be bringing the virus onto the campus.”

In addition to being a resource for asu students and staff, the additional COVID tests from Testing for America will help with the general testing numbers in the Good Life City.

“Really, this gives you an opportunity to both identify people who could bring it to your campus, and also helps to identify the overall prevalence. And so it increases the amount of testing that you have in your community at large,” says Dr Hockstein.

ASU students are set to begin classes on Monday, August 10th.
