Dougherty County officials address COVID-19 scenario

(ALBANY, GA) – Albany and Dougherty County officials met Friday to discuss the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Albany Mayor, Bo Dorough spoke about the influx of Coronavirus cases throughout Southwest Georgia, with more than 3,000 new cases since the end of June.

The Albany Mayor also stressing the importance of wearing a mask in public places, even though it is not required under Georgia’s current executive order.

The Dougherty county school system also made an announcement today with the task force in regards to moving back the start of the school year for students.

“As long as the executive order is in place, all we can do is continue to recommend that citizens wear masks, primarily to protect others,” says Mayor Dorough.

While DCSS Director of Community Relations, LaKisha Bryant Bruce said, “All students will begin in the online, instructional model with rolling start dates. High school students, grades 9-12 will start on August 17th. Middle School students, grades 6-8 will start on August 24th. And elementary students, PreK through grade five will begin on August 31st.”
