(AMERICUS, GA) – A volunteer organization in Americus is taking steps towards creating an art district in Sumter County.

The Social Exchange made Americus one of five cities in the state of Georgia to be selected by The Living Walls out of Atlanta to create murals in the hopes of creating an art district.

Social Exchange Chief Operating Officer, Carl Reid says that they not only plan to present the plans for more murals to the Americus City Commission, but they want the community to be a regional hub for art.

Reid tells us, “What we are envisioning is that we could be a model for the nation that not every community is at odds with one another. But that we can come together in unity through the expressions of art. And be inclusive with everybody.”

Reid says that the next step would be to get approval from the Sumter County Board of Tourism.
