(MOULTRIE, GA) – For more than a mile down Sylvester Highway, cars were lined up Friday morning for the first truck to truck food distribution, helmed by the Moultrie Lions Club, and its District Governor, Brenda Arnold.

Brendaa tells us, “The Moultrie Lions Club has chosen to partner with memorial baptist church and bring a truckload of food in. They’re actually going to bring one in from Collins Brothers Produce from the state farmer’s market in Atlanta, one every Friday to Moultrie.”

It’s not just the Moultrie Lions Club handing out more than 1,100, 20 pound boxes of food.

Members of the Cordele Lions Club, members of the Memorial Baptist Church, as well as students from Colquitt County were out to help make a difference.

Colquitt County High School LEOs President, Jorge Resendiz says, “It feels good to help, knowing that you’re helping those who really need it. And it might be a little food, but it’s something to put on the table. But we’re helping a lot of people.”

“Considering that people don’t have jobs, they don’t have food on their table, and they need something to get through. So every bit helps,” says volunteer Chrystal Brown.

With more truck to truck distributions going on through the month of June, and Brenda says the impact was being felt by the community almost immediately.

She says, “There’s been two individuals who’ve come through and said, ‘I know you don’t want COVID-19 and I dont have it, butIi have to hug you.’ One lady told me this was the first time she was able to put fresh vegetables on her children’s plates tonight because she’d been getting nothing but canned goods…”

The Moultrie Lions Club will be hosting truck to truck distributions every Friday at noon in the month of June. Anyone interested in volunteering can show up at Memorial Baptist Church at 1809 Sylvester Highway at 10:30 Friday morning.

The Cordele Lions Club will be hosting their own Truck to Truck food distribution in Crisp County on June 20th at Crisp County High School.
