Dougherty County leaders working to form regional COVID19 task force

(ALBANY, GA) — As the state of Georgia continues to re-open, Dougherty County leaders are proposing a regional task force for more than a dozen counties across Southwest Georgia.
Dougherty County Commission Chairman, Chris Chills says, “We have literally been at times, number three in the world in per capita infections. That’s why we’ve made swift decisions, implemented rules, and have started to flatten the curve.”
The proposed task force would report to the governor’s office as southwest Georgia continues to monitor covid-19 cases.
Albany Mayor, Bo Dorough says that working with surrounding rural communities in the region also helps to squash any notions that the Good Life City is in this alone.
Mayor Dorough said Thursday afternoon, “I certainly hope that we don’t see these infection rates and death rates continue to increase, but that would be the point of the regional task force. It would help us to work in conjunction with other cities and counties in southwest Georgia.”
As the county continues to try and get the regional task force off the ground, communication between local communities and the state could prove vital towards moving forward with returning to normal.
“When we have a resource like this, it allows us to diagnose ourselves as a community. It allows us perspective if we feel we are symptomatic,” says Chairman Cohilas
County officials say that if approved, this task force would also come together in the event of natural disasters in Southwest Georgia.
