‘I wish he had more time’: Adonis Butler’s family speaks out, after fatal bus accident

Adonis Butler was a sophomore at Albany State University and linebacker on the football team.

ALBANY, Ga. – It’s now been 2 months since the passing of Adonis Butler, 21, who was hit and killed by a city bus on Albany State University’s East Campus.

Although there are still many unanswered questions, we caught up with the Butler family to see how they’ve been coping with the loss of Butler.

“I’m thankful that he didn’t leave this earth without knowing that he was loved by his family, and leaving us behind we knew how much we were loved by Adonis. That helps us get through the times.”  said Diana Ross, Adonis’s mother.

Though there are many things that help the family get through their grief such as reminiscing on funny videos, TikToks, and conversations.

Butler’s sister Ariana Butler says she is channeling her inner Adonis by continuing to stay in the gym, while also keeping on the track of music in her passion of singing.

“So I use songs to really help me push my emotions out and I’m recently back in the gym. I’ve been in the gym but given everything I took a break. So I just channel his energy and the first day back in the gym was actually very emotional for me, and I kind of broke down a little bit. Because if you knew Adonis, you knew he loved exercising, he loved working out, he loved what was good for him…” said Ariana.

The Butler family also mentioned the overwhelming support from those who knew Adonis and even those who didn’t know him, which is also a factor in helping them through their most difficult times.

“Just to see the amount of folks that he’s touched in his short time, me, his family that’s pretty much the energy that thrives, and that keeps me upbeat.” said Adrian Butler, Adonis’s father

Although the family wishes they had more time with Adonis, they’re grateful for the time spent with him.

“…God makes no mistakes, we know that his purpose was fulfilled, Adonis’s on this earth. What he needed to do on this earth, he accomplished. The seeds that he planted, are still growing. He’s still impacting so many people…” said Ross.

We reached out to ASU, and the Albany Transit System for a response on the status of their investigation, we were told that it was handed over to Georgia State Patrol (GSP).  Due to the case being active and ongoing, no further information could be released.
