Dawson Police use orange seatbelt covers to promote seatbelt laws
(DAWSON, GA)- The Dawson Police Department is showing a sign of solidarity with the public.
Officers in police vehicles are now wearing orange seat-belt covers to show that they are following the same seat-belt laws as everyone else.
Police Chief, Willie Thornton says the covers were a response to claims that officers were not wearing seat-belts while enforcing the same laws.
Chief Thornton tells us, “Well with the public, it gives us and them a little bit more trust. They trust us more, then of course, they’ll inform us more of what’s going on in the community. And that trust is a real big building block when it comes to police and community relations.”
Chief Thornton says that since they installed the seatbelt covers, more drivers are wearing their seatbelts, preventing people from being thrown from the car during accidents.
