Radium Springs Trailhead approved for phase two

RADIUM SPRINGS, Ga. — As Dougherty County continues the effort to bring Radium Springs back from the devastation of 2017’s tornadoes, the county approved the next step for the radium springs trailhead.
They’re making use of the town’s old golf course.
District 4 County Commissioner, Russell Gray says, ”It’ll tie into our trial master plan here in Dougherty County. It’ll be an asset to the revitalization of the Radium Springs area, after it was devastated by multiple storms.”
The $284,000 step will help as it connects Radium Springs all the way to Downtown Albany.
Commissioner Gray says the trail is a small part of the county’s “master plan” for Radium Springs.
He says, “We’ve also authorized the use of funds to stabilize and enhance some of the existing infrastructure around the spring itself as we continue with the master plan.”
The county commission is hoping to see results both short term and long term for the town.
“I think within the next two to five years, you’re gonna see Radium explode as a vital and energetic part of our community,” says Commissioner Gray.
With the next steps of action in place, the county is hoping it won’t be long before the town is back to its former glory.
Commissioners say they want to break ground on the trailhead in a couple of months.
