Bishop on Capitol attack anniversary
Southwest Georgia's representative issues statement on January 6th attack

WASHINGTON, DC- Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement regarding the one-year anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol:
“One year ago, the lives of Members of Congress, the Vice President, staff, and Capitol Police were terrorized by an angry mob attempting to stop the U.S. Congress from executing its constitutional duty to affirm the results of the presidential election.
“As we reflect on the death and destruction at the U.S. Capitol on that infamous day, we must act with resolve to learn what happened, who is responsible, and what must be done to ensure that it never happens again.
“It is our duty to the U.S. Constitution and the American people to gather the facts leading up to, during, and following that event.
“To this end, the House of Representatives’ bipartisan commission, led by Chair Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney, is working tirelessly to uncover and present the unvarnished truth. The preservation of our democracy and the rule of law require no less.”
