ALBANY, Ga. – During Monday’s County commission meeting, the Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD) gave an update as it pertains to the use of ATV’s on the roads.
Dougherty County Assistant Police Chief Tateshea Irving elaborated on plans the department is putting in place, such as teaming up with the Albany Police Department (APD) and purchasing 4-wheelers of their own to follow behind those who are riding ATV’s illegally.
“So once we get that, we’ll have a method an ATV on ATV method,” says Irving.
Dougherty County Administrator Michael McCoy added that people can ride their ATV’s on county property such as Robert Cross park as long as they have permission, but he along with county commissioners would rather someone in the community open up a park for ATV’s to be driven.
“So recently we had a problem with Robert Cross Park, and no one asked for permission and even if they had we would likely denied them. And we asked for more funding to have security, law enforcement presence in the park, because it’s highly utilized by children and families on the weekend and we do not want motorized vehicles in the park with pedestrians.” says McCoy.
Dougherty County Police have sent officers off to training to use the 4-wheelers, no word on when we could see them hit the roadways.
