WCSS names new high school principal

(SYLVESTER, GA)- After mutually agreeing to part ways with principal, Scott Kersh, the Worth County School System has turned locally for their next high school principal.

Meet Melissa Edwards; she’s an alumni of the school system and has been employed by them for nearly 15 years.

Edwards says, ”It’s huge. This is like a dream come true for me. It’s been a goal, but it’s really been more like a dream than a goal. Because it’s just a big deal, it’s something you strive for and you work for.”

When it came to deciding on Edwards as the new principal, Superintendent, Bill Settle says that having someone who’s local to the area can have benefits for the student body and the district.

“Usually for someone coming from outside to take over a leadership role, it could take them one to three years to figure out that roadmap. So I think that’s a big plus for her to come in and not have to spend any time figuring those things out,” says Settle.

For Edwards, when she takes over as the new principal, she’s ready to mold the young minds and let them see that Worth County is on the upswing.

She tells us, “This is home for me. It matters a lot to me what quality education we have, and the things our students are able to access and be a part of. So there’s a lot of pride…”

With a new principal named, Superintendent Settle is hoping that a local principal will bring some much needed stability for the district.

Edwards will officially take over a principal on July 1st.
