Downtown Moultrie quickly approaching last step in amending alcohol ordinance

MOULTRIE, Ga. – On thur. The city of Moultrie is closer to approving a revision to their alcohol ordinance that will allow residents take wine and beer to the streets during city hosted events.
This change comes ahead of Second sSaturday: the city’s first, monthly event that will feature live music in their downtown area.
Second Saturday is modeled after Thomasville’s First Friday, a downtown event featuring live music along with the sale of beer and wine by participating vendors.
City manager, Pete Dillard, is confident that City Council will approve the ordinance change for a third time. Making the revision final.
Dillard says having alcohol at the event will help its success in revitalizing Moultrie’s downtown area which is vital to the community.
He says, “the strength of the downtown is the strength of the community. You can’t have a successful community without a successful downtown. So any event that we can support that will bring people downtown is our responsibility and we feel like this will help.”
City Council is expected to review the ordinance for a final time this coming tues. and Second Saturday will be March 14th.
